TIPP CITY - Charlie Kleptz was crowned the 2010 Mum Festival Queen after judges chose her out of a dozen contestants in the annual pageant last weekend. Kleptz, who was also voted Miss Congeniality by her peers before the pageant began, is the daughter of Tim and Michelle Kleptz and is a senior at Northmont High School where her favorite subject is English. According to her pageant bio, she loves to sing, act, write and work with her 4-H animals. Her extracurricular activities include drama club, show choir, SADD, DECA, thespians and 4-H. She plans to attend the University of Kentucky to study broadcast journalism and education. Amanda Cunningham, 17, was the winner of the Talent Award and was chosen as First Attendant. She is the daugther of Robert and Lori Cunningham and a senior at Northmont where her favorite subject is art. She enjoys singing, acting, drawing and figure skating. Her activities include drama club, pink ribbon club and show choir. She plans to attend Kent State to major in business and fashion merchandising.
Kimberly Gepfrey, 17, was named Second Attendant. She is the daughter of David and Jennifer Gepfrey and a senior at Miami East High School. Her favorite subject is choir and she enjoys piano, dance, musicals, camping and boating. Her activities include Muse Machine, president of Honor Society, vice president of her class, Pride in ME officer and varsity cheerleader. She plans to attend University of Cincinnati or Ohio Northern University to major in musical theater or broadcast communications. Kaylee Schaefer, 17, was named Third Attendant. She is the daughter of Curt and Joy Schaefer and is a senior at Miami East where her favorite subjects are English and French. She enjoys working outside, gardening and her job as hostess at Applebee’s. Extracurricular activities are cheerleading, softball and FFA. She plans to attend Pratt University to study in the fashion field. Other 2010 Mum Festival Queen’s Pageant contestants were

The girls are judged on a personal interview done the Wednesday before the pageant, their talent performance, poise and personal appearance on stage, and an on-stage interview at the pageant. Miss Congeniality is voted on by her peers before the pageant begins. This years judges were Bridgitte Hatfield, dance background; Karen Fry, music background; Lauryn Bayliff, Mum Festival Treasurer and Trustee; and Lisa Brown, who has been involved with the judging of various pageants and also owns Pure Prom and Pageant store. The judging coordinator was Melissa Roberts, past Chairman of Queen’s Pageant. This year’s sponsers and merchants consisted of the Tipp City Mum Festival; Mark T. Bentley, DDS Inc. and Charles H. Stevens, DDS, who donated complimentary teeth whitening for the contestants as well as the $500 Queen’s Scholarship; Domino’s Pizza; Total Image Salon and Day Spa; Tipp Florist; Ann Weaver, who donated the Queen’s Sash; Award One; Haas Signs, who did the sash lettering; Fed Ex/Kinkos, did the programs; and Tom and Pam Holl, who hosted the judge’s dinner. The pageant production staff include Jennifer Tennant, Chairman and Contestant Director;
