TIPP CITY - Jody and Shaun Bowser have adopted before, but they had no idea a devastating earthquake could bring them closer to getting a boy from Haiti.

The Bowsers hosted Wood, now age 4, in June of 2007 when he needed reconstructive airway surgery. They then found out Wood has other health issues which include an external-internal birthmark and endocrine imbalances. When he was stable after his surgery he went back to Haiti in May 2008.

It was then the couple knew they wanted to adopt him. They have hosted other children that needed medical attention here in the United States, but this was the first one that was actually going back to an orphanage.

TIPP CITY - Officer Greg Adkins’ partner will have a special vest thanks to an organization’s donation.

Gitta is the first police dog with Tipp City’s Police Department to have a special vest to protect her in the line of duty.

Officer Adkins saw a published story a national organization that finds funds to purchase protective vests for police dogs. He got his police dog, Gitta on the waiting list and heard recently that they would be receiving a vest. Cost for this special vest is $1,400 but the group is able to get a discounted cost and then finds donors to fund the vests.

The vest is a new custom ballistic/stab resistant vest just like her handler wears. It was received through Susie Jean from Vest ‘N Police Dog Protection. Susie Jean created website www.vestnpdp.com to promote the cause of fitting police service dogs with vests.

Since 2002 Susie Jean has equipped more than 260 police dogs with ballistic vests.

“I am grateful to all the help that Susie has provided this department and other departments to protect our K9 Partners,” said Adkins.
