TIPP/MILTON - Tipp City and Milton-Union school officials had reason to celebrate Tuesday night. Both school districts had much needed levies on the ballot and as the results from the polls came in, both passed.

The Tipp City School District’s l9.61-mill levy passed easily, with 62.93 percent of the vote. That’s 3,642 votes in favor of the levy and 2,122 against. Milton-Union’s levy barely passed, with just 55.95 percent of the vote. According to the Miami County Board of Elections’ website, that’s 2,001 yes votes to 1,578 nays.

Nearly 11,000 residents of Darke, Shelby and Miami counties will continue to be served by the Tri-County Board of Recovery & Mental Health Services, thanks to the passage of the 0.6 renewal levy. The levy provides about 25 percent of the board’s budget.

“We are thrilled with the results and the continued support from our community,” said Amanda Brown, the director of community resource development.

Executive Director Mark McDaniel, Executive Director, Tri-County Board of Recovery & Mental Health Services also is appreciative of the continued support of the tri-county community.

He said, "passage of the levy renewal allows us to continue offering programs such as CIT, SafeHaven, and treatment and prevention services that support those in our community struggling with mental illness or addictions."

MIAMI COUNTY - Three local levies achieved renewal this year when the polls closed last Tuesday. The West Milton Police and Fire Safety, Bethel Emergency Medical Services and Fire, and Monroe Emergency Medical Services (EMS) levies all passed again.

The levies will continue to provide for valuable services that save and protect lives without any increase to current taxes.

The police and fire levy for West Milton is a one-half percent income tax, which is in place to help offset the cost of these services. This levy generates $250,000 a year, making it a considerable portion of the $800,000 annual budget.

The money is divided between the police and fire operations with funds being apportioned on a yearly basis depending on the budget and needs.
