![]() The Downtown Tipp City Partnership held our annual Appreciation Dinner at Harrison’s on Feb. 4, welcoming lots of great guests and swearing in our new DTCP Board President, Logan Rogers, and our newest officers and Board Members. My apologies to anyone who had to sit through my speech - I detest giving speeches and flubbed my way through 10 minutes of thanking all of our volunteers and committee leaders who made my year as the 2009 Downtown Tipp City Partnership President so successful. We did a lot in 2009: - Tippecanoe Farmers’ Market 2009 Season - from May to September, the Partnership held our third season of the popular Tipp Farmers’ Market. Sponsors included Cincinnati Bell, Willow Tree Inn and Spring Hill Nurseries.
- Ohio Main Street status - over the summer, we became a Network Member of Main Street Ohio after submitting a 200-page application. This will allow the Partnership to pursue many grant opportunities that we would not otherwise qualify. - Tippecanoe Canal Jumpers - in August, we launched Tipp City’s own vintage base ball team, which played their first game at the Willow Tree Inn. The Canal Jumpers follow in the tradition of the 1912 Tippecanoe Sleepies, a volunteer-organized local baseball team. Watch for our 2010 schedule - we hope to play 10 home and away games against teams from all over Ohio and Indiana. - Façade Improvement Program - this grant program helps local businesses improve the appearance of their storefronts. Sam and Ethel’s used our grant to refurbish their vintage neon sign, and Midwest Memories also participated in the program.501(c)3 - in October, the Partnership obtained 501(c)3 Federal tax-exempt status, a critical step in future funding opportunities. During the year, other Partnership events included the Antiques and Artisans show, led by Ruth Safreed, and the third Tippecanoe HarvestFest, led by Logan Rogers and Matt Black. The Winters’ Yuletide Gathering returned, spearheaded by Matt Owen. And Heather Bailey brought back the Homes for the Holiday Tour. The Partnership is a great group of volunteers, and as you can see from the 2009 list of accomplishments, we manage to get a lot done, considering we all have real jobs and families and lives. I have to tip my hat to the people who selflessly volunteer hundreds of hours of their time to carry out projects to make Tipp City a better place to live. Do you have ideas, input, complaints, or concerns about what’s going on in YOUR downtown? Come to our meetings and discuss it! Get Social! Radio is now airing live on KIT-TV! Tipp City’s only live Internet radio show, called the Get Social! Show, is airing live on Channel 5 on Wednesday afternoons from 1-2:30 and simulcasting on the radio. Mike McDermott and I host the show and we try to cover a variety of Tipp-City related topics, including local guests, local news and weather, and a round-up of local events and activities. The show is part of our 24-hour Internet radio station, which broadcasts continuously at www.getsocialradio.com and features lots of great music, commercials, and news and weather updates. Interested in being a guest or joining our studio audience? Check the website! Foreigner Does anyone plan on catching Foreigner when they play at the Hobart Arena on Thursday, Feb. 18? I’d love to hear about it. Shoot me an email - I love the idea of stars visiting Tipp and Troy. Anyone know of any other well-known bands or performers coming to the Miami Valley? Happy Valentine’s Day, Tipp City! I love this holiday - everyone is so nice to each other. Here’s hoping everyone has someone special to share the day with.
