TIPP CITY – Chief Tom Davidson possessed true leadership qualities that left an impression on many who worked alongside of him. Davidson passed away on April 23, and the police station has already been renamed in his honor. “I have worked for many bosses in my professional life and Tom Davidson is the best I have worked for,” Sergeant Marc Basye said. “I would not be the professional I am today without Tom Davidson - he literally made my career.” Patrolman Corey Rismiller agreed. |

Last week, the Weekly Record Herald detailed the beginnings and alleged maltreatment of horses by Shula Woodworth at Serenity Horse Rescue in Springboro (read that article here.) Since at least 2007 to 2012, volunteers claimed Woodworth starved, hoarded and abused horses, and emotionally wracked the people who helped her. Last August, Woodworth was evicted from the Warren County property and moved to a property in Miami County. By JOYELL NEVINS Record Herald Editor When Shula Woodworth and her children moved the Serenity Horse Rescue to 5275 State Route 201 in Bethel Township, the neighbors were excited to have a supposed rescue operation nearby. “When she came here, we were thrilled to death,” Susan Howell said. Howell is an extended part of the family that the Serenity Horse Rescue property belonged to – the 106-acre sprawl includes several family member neighbors, along with Serenity’s acreage. Howell even shared her water with the Serenity horses when they first arrived in the hot days of August – throwing her hose over the fence and pumping out 700-1,000 gallons a day. That went on for several months, until the water was left on for seven to 12 hours because Woodworth’s son forgot to turn off the hose. |

TIPP CITY - Due to cuts in state and local funding, Tipp Monroe Community Services (TMCS) has requested that the city allow them to stop paying rent. City Council discussed this proposal at their May 20 study session. Tipp City provides TMCS with $17,700 annually. The organization then pays $10,000 in rent to the city each year. TCMS Executive Director Kathy Taylor asked council to consider eliminating their rent until the replacement levy goes on the ballot in 2016. Council will vote on the proposal at their next meeting. Most seemed in favor of waiving TMCS’ rent obligation. |
