BETHEL TOWNSHIP - The main focus of the Bethel Township Trustees’ meeting Tuesday night was to recognize some local heros. Eight fire fighters, with more than 102 years combined experience, received certificates of appreciation and a festive cake from the Township.

A resolution “expressed gratitude” to Lt. Chris Kyer for his service of five years. Resolutions were also made to recognize John Meyer, Lt. Shawn Cline, Lt. Charles Pacheco, and Lt. James Sebastian for 10 years of Bethel firefighting. James Ake has worked as both a paramedic and fire fighter in the community for 15 years.

TIPP CITY - Parents hope that their child will never be diagnosed with an illness as frightening as Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, but for one Tipp City family, the support and love of an entire community has given them courage and hope.

Tina Jenks was horrified when she received the news in October that her 17-year-old, Jimmy Jenks, a senior at Tippecanoe High School, had more than bronchitis. The coughing he had been experiencing for days was not the result of a virus, but an abnormal mass in his lung and several cancerous masses in his lymph nodes.

Jimmy was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, which has no specific known cause and is fortunately much less dangerous than its cousin Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphom. He is getting ready to start his last of four rounds of chemotherapy which will be followed by several weeks of radiation.

TIPP CITY - Some new things are on the horizon for the Tipp City Schools.  The board of education this month approved a $204,000 new building project to the Tippecanoe High School baseball and softball fields, after they were damaged in a windstorm last fall.

The damage was done to the facilities over Labor Day weekend. High winds tore up fences, tossed bleachers, and caused damage to the dugouts and the baseball field’s backstop. The home dugout for the baseball field was completely leveled by the storm.

The damaging winds brought to light the need for stronger, sturdier dugouts, according to school officials.
